Chelsea yet to agree fee for Costa, says Atletico boss

Atletico Madrid’s president Enrique Cerezo has denied claims that Diego Costa’s transfer to Chelsea is complete and has insisted that they are yet to agree a transfer fee for the Spanish international striker with the Premier League giants.

There have been claims in both the English and Spanish media that the Brazilian born Spanish international striker underwent a medical at the West London club before flying out to Brazil with the Spain squad for the World Cup but these new claims by the Atletico Madrid boss has put a new twist on the long protracted transfer saga for the much wanted Brazilian.

The 26 year old was a key member of the Atletico Madrid squad, scoring goals for fun as they went on to secure their first Spanish League title in 18 years, having last won the title in 1996. He was in impeccable form for the Red and Whites in the UEFA Champions League as well as they reached the final and Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has confirmed that he is interested in bringing the striker to Stamford Bridge as he looks to bolster his attacking options.

Costa reportedly has a £ 32 million buyout clause inserted in his contract and while Cerezo confirmed that the Blues have made contact with them over a potential transfer for the player, they are yet to come to an agreement over a fee and no deal has been struck.

Cerezo stated that he doesn’t know anything about Diego Costa and all he can say at this moment is that Chelsea have made contact with them for his signing. He also added that they haven’t received any money from the club as well or anything of that sort.

Cerezo claimed unless the buyout clause is triggered, Diego Costa will remain an Atletico player.
